Hi Oreki,
Today I am starting to implement one core principle into my life and it is 'not forgetting to start small and slow'
stereotype timeline
- Feel demotivated
- Replaying my dreams in my head
- Feeling motivated and ambitious again
- Trying to get back in track--by making too many habits at once
- Struggle until that last bit of Motivation
End of Honeymoon period
Fall back to the same tracks.
Okay I have gone and fell in that trap more than I can both count and admit. I would always be careless at choosing my habits and difficulty of achieving them. Many of us underestimate the hard work needed to make a new habit.
But when we ultimately fail, we attribute the failure to our lack of motivation and will power. Often times than not, motivation is not the key player in Habit making process.
When you see the bigger picture, there are many things which are responsible for the habit to sustain. James clear points out that Motivation is Overvalued. Environment Often Matters More.
- It can be tempting to blame failure on a lack of willpower or a scarcity of talent, and to attribute success to hard work, effort, and grit.
- To be sure, those things matter. What is interesting, however, is that if you examine how human behavior has been shaped over time, you discover that motivation (and even talent) is often overvalued. In many cases, the environment matters more.
But when you want to take things easy and simple, a rule of thumb is to make your habits/daily-goals to be simple but fulfilling.
I of all people--know this is very hard. But going as hard as you can at the early stages will only exhaust you of your will power and make you lose the motivation.
So Remember to start small and slow. This will give you the sense of accomplishment and most important Consistency.
Make it so easy you can’t say no.
